International celebrate double

THE cricketers of the Reading Midweek League were out in force to celebrate another super season at their annual awards presentation evening.

Reading International celebrated being the first team to achieve the double of league and cup, while newcomers Gulshan won the Division Two title.

Shinfield Village, who were runners-up in both the league and cup this year, gained some compensation by winning the 2006 Quiz Cup.

The league recognised and made individual awards to batsmen achieving the magical 100 runs and to bowlers taking five wickets within the limit of four overs.

The most noteworthy performance was achieved by Guishan's Tassawar Nawaz who made two centuries. He amassed 116no versus Cintra and 105no against Foster Wheeler

The top bowling performance was returned by Cintra's Tommy Goodicock He took five wickets on two occasions: 5-22 against Sulhamstead and 5-13 against Royal Mail.

The evening was a highly enjoyable and a tremendous success especially for Cardkey's leading batsman Paul Dolan whose sports raffle prize was a superb bat donated by A.W. Sports in Wooodley.

Microsoft's all rounder Rob Rodgers was even more delighted. He won the top raffle prize, a full set of top brand golf clubs donated by Nevada Bobs in Reading.

League treasurer Jeff Wayling was also able to announce that Microsoft have agreed to continue their sponsorship of the league for the 2007 season.

He said that Microsoft's generosity would allow the RMCL to continue to offer low cost midweek cricket to players of all ages and abilities in the Reading area.
