RAJA LOOKS LIKE A HOT CONTENDER
Nomination for curry boss
Curry lovers say there's naan better than the Gulshan Tandoori restaurant on Station Hill, and have nominated it for Pride of Reading's newly created Restaurant of the Year Award.
The Gulshan which has been running for more than 15 years, was established by Zahoor Raja in 1991, and specialises in dishes from the north of the Indian subcontinent.
Satisfying the curry cravings of around 300 customers every week, Mr Raja said the popular eatery's nomination was amazing.
He said: "This is fantastic. I think it comes down to looking after the customers well, although I hope it is also because the food is very good."
Emma Thomas, who nominated the Gulshan, agreed.
Ms Thomas, who until three years ago lived in the Middle East, explained: "I've eaten at Indian restaurants all over Reading and the Gulshan Tandoori is the best."
The Gulshan will be judged in the Restaurant of the Year Award by a select panel of food enthusiasts including celebrity chefs Antony Worrall Thompson and Daniel Galmiche.
Chris Tarrant will present the winners with their awards at a ceremony in the Renaissance Hotel on November 1.
The Gulshan has also been nominated by several other diners.
They include Erin Donovan from Elliots Way, Caversham, who said: "Although I eat there every week, I still find myself craving a curry a day or two before we go."
Daniel Ball from Winnersh said: "The range of flavours is unrivalled."
Walid Kurdi & Margaret Collins of Albion Terrace, said: "We think the Gulshan is the only authentic Indian restaurant in Reading, where the quality of food, service and friendliness never waver."
The Pryor family of Tadley also wrote: "We are more than happy to travel from Tadley in Hampshire to eat at the Gulshan. We have tried other Indian restaurants but none of them have the excellent standard and quality of the Gulshan."
